Today was a pretty brutal training session for me but I got it done. I woke up around 7:30 and took the dog for a quick walk got some coffee and headed for the pool. I was going to swim two miles but I wussed out after almost a mile and a half because I didn’t want to push it too much and I knew my ride today was going to be insane.

I grabbed a bagel sandwich on the way home and then put some air in my tires and headed out. It was pretty windy today so that made things a little bit harder. I made it to the top of City Creek and then it was back down and over to Emigration. I munched a granola bar on the way.

Then it was back to more uphill. The wind was not helping but I was keeping myself well hydrated and feeling good. Got to the top and whipped out my bagel sandwich for the downhill. I was having a hard time getting it unwrapped and I was all over the road(mental note…ziplock bags are good and easy, saran wrap…..bad and hard). I finally managed to get it out and shoved it into my face. It really hit the spot and it was very tasty. Fast downhill today, I almost hit 48.

I-80 was fast but riding on the freeway really sucks. I finally made it to the frontage road and over to Mill Creek canyon. Mill creek isn’t to bad at first but it has some steep uphills for sure. I was starting to get pretty tired and I was running out of water. But I kept going.

I must not have been paying attention because I ended up in the weeds. I don’t know how but I managed to unclip. I was ok and got back on my bike. Towards the top the road narrows and it gets a little sketchy as far as cars go. Someone passed me while another car was coming down. I could feel the wind from their car. Then they thought it would be a good idea to honk at me.

I saw them pulled over not too far and asked if that was them that passed me. All four passengers immediately started yelling at me and I yelled back. I swore at them a lot and they tried to tell me I was in the wrong. There is no way! I was over as far as I could get without riding in the dirt. I was circling and yelling at them and then I hit the dirt and fell over. Super smooth! Finally we all calmed down and the driver came over to me and asked me what he should have done. I told him that he should treat me like a car and wait until it was safe to pass(which I am pretty sure is what he should have done). He said that he was sorry and I was on my way again.

Now I was out of water and starting to get very thirsty. I saw a sign that said thousand springs so I stopped and filled up with some water that looked like it was coming out of the mountain. maybe a big mistake but I guess I will find out in a day or two. It really recharged me and it’s a good thing because it gets really steep at the top. I stopped one more time to pee and have a short rest then I was at the top.

From there it was downhill and maybe only fifteen miles to my house. The elevation gain on the ride was 7729 over sixty three miles so it is on par for my race and I am going to do the same ride next week with some running after. I meant to run today but I am doing well and I don’t want to push it too much. Once I got home I hit the couch and I was out. Hopefully by next week I have my knew bike and it will be a whole new world
