Well it was my first triathlon of the season and I came nowhere near my goal.  I am not going to make any excuses but this one:  Without proper training you simply can’t win, no matter how much you think you can.

It pretty much rained all night which I knew would make the course a horrible mess(it’s a mountain bike course).  I had a crazy dream that bigdave came out for this race and they cancelled the bike portion which we would make up on a later date.  But when I woke up for real it was not raining so I knew the race would go on.

I got body marked and made my way to the start.  You kind of seed yourself in this race and I was in the sub-5 category.  I jumped in and remembering from last year, I paced myself well.  After about half-way I turned it up a notch andfinished the swim at a very good pace for me.  Swim time:4:33.220

T1: 2:31.029 kind of slow

Got on my bike and made my way to the mud-bog.  The course was in terrible shape.  It was super wet and muddy.  I was cranking hard and I made it to the first turn-around.  Downhill for a bit now I was able to pass one person then another person passed me.  One more uphill section then it was time to head back to the transition area.  You had to be a little bit careful or you would slide right off the trail.  Back to the transition for the start of the run.  Bike time:33:52.421

T2:00:18.666 Really fast

Sarted the run and I felt pretty good.  I passed one guy right away and made it to the downhill section.  I was going fast but when it flattened out again I started to run out of gas.  Two guys passed me and I couldn’t keep up.  Now the final uphill section and really feeling it.  I managed to keep a pretty good pace and when it flattened out again I was able to turn on the juice for the finish.  Run time:22:59.463

Total time:1:04:14.799

Not too bad at all.  I ended up 15th overall and 3rd in my age group.  Oh yeah, did I mention that I rocked a bright blue speedo?

I was going to make a joke about your speedo, but I am sitting on my couch watching the Price is Right and it does not seem like I have the authority to give you any grief at this time. I think I will dust off the bike and make something happen for myself today. Thanks for the inspiration…..jerk :)

    Hairy Banana Hammocks Batman…

Nice work considering the mtb conditions slowed you down.

way to go, R! ablue speedo and a stylish haircut. love it! you sure you don’t have some german heritage?

that’s a nice 5k after that effort. You should be proud of the results, including your overall finish.

We were proud to witness the event and your performance bro!

Amazing how people will get out of the way for a hard charging Rocky Mountain hairless spotted brown bear wearing a Speedo that’s 2 sizes too small . . . way to rock it my friend!
